Director of Accounting

Position Summary
Reporting to the VP Controller and Treasurer, the Director of Accounting is responsible for leading a team of accounting professionals that ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial information that complies with GAAP. The Director will directly supervise accounting over its National Material Company steel business, corporate office accounting and shared services, accounts payable, the financial consolidation, and internal financial reporting of all NMLP business segments. This position will frequently interact with the NMLP CFO on reporting and internal control matters.

Specific responsibilities include:

Ensure that all accounting functions are performed in an accurate, complete and timely manner in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP).
Analyze and improve internal controls over key areas of financial reporting, including general ledger account reconciliation, accounts payable, cash, inventory, and key judgments and estimates.
Improve accounting policies and practices, providing standardization across our businesses where appropriate.
Optimize accounting process efficiency leveraging technology where appropriate to reduce transaction processing cost.
Assess quality and quantity of current accounting department staffing. Maintain an organization structure with the appropriate talent level to accomplish the department’s goals and objectives.
Set clear expectations of performance metrics and objectives, assuring that all members of the Accounting staff are developing as planned.
Develop and enhance accounting shared services across the NMLP portfolio of companies where possible.
Participate in other financial or management project initiatives, as necessary.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
CPA is required.
Minimum 7-10 years of progressive work experience in accounting.
Substantive controllership experience supervising 5-10 accounting personnel in a company or a division of at least $500 million in size is required; alternatively, Audit Manager/Senior Manager candidates currently with a national CPA firm who have a manufacturing or distribution client base will also be considered.
Fluency in Spanish will further qualify the candidate.
Experience with businesses operating in Mexico is preferred.

Ability to communicate key financial data effectively, in all mediums, in presentations to senior management.
Confident, open and willing to confront difficult issues and challenge others in order to create positive change.
Must have strong technical accounting skills including strong expertise in US GAAP.
Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics GP and AX ERP helpful.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel is required.
Highest level of integrity and ethical standards.
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-past, deadline-oriented environment.
